The Diaspora Humanitarian Partnership Programme Team in the Insight and Improvement Directorate is looking for a volunteer from a Diaspora background to support their team in the management of the various projects under the Diaspora Humanitarian Partnership Programme and especially the grants workstream.

Many definitions of the term ‘diaspora’ exist, but taking into consideration the purpose of the programme, and our identity as a humanitarian actor, we have decided to use the following definition: An individual who belongs to or identifies with another country in addition to the UK, and they still maintain links to their homelands or country(s) of origin, either real or symbolic, and to each other based on a sense of history, identity, or mutual experience.

This programme is working across various departments and teams within the British Red Cross, including UK-based services, communications, fundraising, youth engagement, community engagement and co production, small grants and, international programmes.

Your role in the team would be valuable to support the management and implementation of the granting project as well as the other programme workstreams. The role is a flexible one, with many opportunities to learn and develop.

The closing date for applications is 23 May 2023.

Hours This placement will last a maximum of 12 weeks volunteering up to 2 or 3 days each week or equivalent hours flexible across the week. The volunteering hours are negotiable to balance your needs and what can be achieved in the role.

Bursary Scheme The British Red Cross offers a bursary scheme to those placement volunteers from diaspora backgrounds. In addition to the bursary, all British Red Cross volunteers are entitled to reasonable out-of-pocket expenses.

Young People and this role Our placement volunteer opportunities are open to people at different stages of their career, aged 15 or above. Whether you are a student, a recent graduate or someone with more experience looking for a career change, we would be happy to hear from you.

Anyone can volunteer with the Red Cross from the age of 15. An individual risk assessment, parental consent and safeguarding considerations will be required for those aged 15 – 17. The nature of the activities specific to your intern opportunity may mean that you need to be 18 years or older.
