Our organisation’s mission is to mobilise the power of humanity so that individuals have the capacity to prepare for, deal with and recover from crisis. This means that we help anyone, anywhere in the UK and around the world to get the support they need if crisis strikes: connecting human kindness with human crisis.

Work experience placements gives an opportunity to gain experience within different departments and an insight into the work of the British Red Cross. Work Experience Week is an opportunity to offer various roles at the British Red Cross working with various partner organisations who work with young people from diverse backgrounds.

These roles will be remote/virtual opportunities.

The hours of the work experience opportunity is generally 10.00 - 16.00. The volunteering hours are negotiable to balance your needs and what can be achieved in the role.

A virtual work experience opportunity involves the following:

  • Our teams will set the placement volunteer work for the week which they will then send at the end of the week to their line manager. This could be a mini project they work on or day to day tasks e.g. research work.
  • The work experience person will be working remotely from home; role descriptions will state that volunteers would need a laptop/computer and access to the internet to undertake the placement.
  • The work experience person will attend regular zoom/teams meetings with their line managers and also meetings with the rest of the team to find out what they do. They can also attend other virtual meetings that the team can accommodate them in that week.

British Red Cross work experience placements include a combination of office administration and work on discrete, short-term projects, depending on the young person’s areas of interest and skill. Work experience typically takes place on a full-time basis for one or two weeks, and is for young people over the age of 15.
